Our motivation for this project is to help formerly incarcerated people adjust to society and, more importantly, find employment. To do this, we have implemented a few features. Our first feature is a Resume Builder that allows individuals to add as much information as possible to generate a resume. This includes their name, email, graduation year, and any relevant skills. The resume builder will then return a completed example of the individual’s resume, highlighting these skills and anything else relevant. Our next feature has community events. Here, we decided to focus on the local Pittsburgh area, highlighting the critical events hosted at all the local libraries in Pittsburgh over the next week. These events range from job-finding workshops to coffee chats. We aim to provide resources that make it easier for formerly incarcerated people to reconnect with their communities. Lastly, we offered job postings from carefully selected companies that are committed to providing opportunities for individuals with criminal records, and that do not require extensive prior skills to apply. We aim to give formerly incarcerated individuals an immediate opportunity to enter the workforce, while also enhancing their skillset. Our research shows that unemployment is one of the strongest drivers of re-arrest, something we are determined to change. With our project, we aim to break this cycle by giving people real opportunities to rebuild their lives and shape a better future. Some of the challenges we faced include the prompt engineering to send in the prompt that would generate the best possible resume, the individual components that required particular UI changes to look proper on our website, and finally researching companies and local organizations that align with our goals.
