Inspiration
As someone who gets easily distracted, especially during online school, I needed an application that would force me to stay focused on schoolwork without getting too overwhelmed. I also wanted to create something that would help others stay productive, especially during times like these when everyone can only stay home.
What it does
It is an app that integrates the Pomodoro technique. There are two timers: the work and break intervals. The user can choose how long they would want to do work for, as well as how long they would want their breaks to be. The work timer counts down, and notifies the user when it is time for their break.
How I built it
I coded the application using Java on AndroidStudio.
Challenges I ran into
I have never used AndroidStudio before, so I had difficulties navigating through the IDE at first. Since I was very new to AndroidStudio, learning how everything works took a while as well. With the time constraint that I had, I was not able to fully implement all my ideas into the app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am very proud of how I was able to complete a working app in such a short amount of time, and how I was able to teach myself enough to create and complete something feasible.
What I learned
I learned how to navigate AndroidStudio, and how to create an app with it.
What's next for Timely
- Possibly integrating a habit tracker of sorts alongside of it
- Including stress-relief videos during the break intervals
