Timeless Encounters

Inspiration

We realized that amidst so many rapid changes to today’s world especially the near-complete shift to a zoom world, the senior population may feel lonlier as they are not able to keep up with today’s times. This is why we have designed Timless Ecnounters. Timeless Encounters is an easily accessible platform specifically catered towards the needs of the senior population. Once they simply fill a form, they are provided with a customized list of friends who match perfectly with each other’s interests.

What it does

Accepts user input of "name", "phone number", and "activity". Depending on which activity was selected, a query is run to retrieve all the names and phone numbers in the database who entered the same "activity" category. When a user inputs this data, they are also inserting themselves into the database.

How we built it

We built this website through html, javascript, php, and css. We also used 000webHost to host our website and connect it to our database.

Connecting the website to the database and displaying all the retrievals.

The design of our website, the connection to the database, and the fact that it has the power to bring people together.

What we learned

How to work as a team in everyone's very first Hackathon! It was a great experience to learn about web hosting and connecting to a database.

What's next for Timeless Encounters

Giving our users the ability to directly chat and call from our website would be advantageous for the elderly, because they would not have to deal with the struggle of going to different applications - they could easily do it all from one site. Additionally, our interface would provide users with an even more unique experience if we allowed them a tool to participate in fitness related activities while having fun. Therefore, we would want to add an extension to the website which allows users to select from the list of fitness related activities, log their stats, and have some friendly competition as they are able to see each other’s stats. This would allow the senior population to feel young again, providing them a noteworthy experience.
