Inspiration
When I first got a job, I tried to get into the mindset of saving as much as I could for things later in life. But the problem with money is that its too easy to spend, and shopping sites don't really give you a sense of how much you are spending until its too late.
What it does
This extension takes the hourly/yearly rate of the user and shows how much a time a item will costs them. This will keep shoppers mindful when purchasing and prevent frivolous spending
How we built it
I used node to build the entire project, using web scrapping to get the amazon product details and add a little icon to next to each item with its time loss.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to get the details from the Amazon pages was a bit difficult because they don't make it easy to scrap their data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This kind of project was attempted in the past, but I could never get the web scrapping right. I was worried that this time would be more of the same, but it was one of the more easier parts of this project.
What we learned
I got a better lock on web scrapping which has already inspired some new projects for the future. And also learn more of HTML Dom and making elements more interactive
What's next for TimeIsMoney
I plan on expanding this project to other sites like eBay and Walmart. And also keep track of long term payments.
