Inspiration

The idea for Time Traveler began with a photo of the Diriyah Museum, where the stillness of the past sparked a deeper question: Why should history feel so distant? Instead of just observing the past, the team wanted to experience it — to see it in a modern light and feel its presence alongside us today. This vision led to Time Traveler, a platform where history is reimagined through AI, bringing ancient stories to life in today’s colors and emotions. It’s not just about the facts of the past; it’s about connecting to those moments, seeing them, feeling them, and making them part of who we are..

What it does

Time Traveler is an AI-powered website that allows users to upload any image, and it will transform the image into a modern, artistic version. The site reimagines historical or vintage images using today’s design trends, offering a creative "then vs now" comparison

How we built it

Frontend: Designed a clean, simple interface for easy image uploads and display. -Backend: Developed using Python to handle image processing. -AI Integration: Used OpenAI’s DALL·E to generate modern versions of the uploaded images. -Styling: Incorporated a variety of modern artistic styles, including influences from ancient cultures like Indian heritage and places like Jeddah Al-Balad. -Hosting: Deployed the project on a web platform, ensuring accessibility across devices.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was the lack of existing tools that could transform old images into modern versions. We couldn’t find a pre-built solution that met our needs, so we decided to develop our own using DALL·E. Additionally, fine-tuning the AI model to consistently generate high-quality, visually appealing results required significant effort and adjustments. Lastly, ensuring the efficiency of image processing was crucial. We needed to make sure the website could handle multiple image uploads and transformations without any delays or issues.

In the future, we plan to improve the image quality by enhancing the AI’s performance, allowing for more accurate and detailed transformations. We also aim to add more artistic styles and cultural influences, giving users even more variety in their image reimaginings. Another feature we want to introduce is user customization, allowing users to tweak the transformation styles to their personal preferences. Lastly, we plan to create a mobile version of the website, making it easier for users to access and enjoy the experience on the go..
