Time Tracking App One-Shot Challenge

Inspiration

To compete in the one-shot challenge from bolt.new in creating a fully functional application using a single prompt.

What it does

The resulting app allows users to efficiently track their time through customizable, color-coded categories. It's fully offline-capable, installable as a Progressive Web App (PWA), and provides insightful statistics on time usage.

How I built it

Instead of manual coding, I extensively experimented with various AI prompts on bolt.new, iterating until the AI successfully generated the complete, working app in a single attempt. My focus was on clearly conveying precise requirements and limitations in the prompt.

Challenges I ran into

Crafting an effective prompt was particularly challenging, as getting the AI to generate complete, functional code rather than just conceptual mockups required careful wording. Initially, I planned more advanced features, but they proved too complex for one-shot app generation. Ideas like automatic break notifications, CSV export, multiple projects with subcategories, advanced statistics, and goal-setting features didn't make the final cut due to their complexity.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm especially proud of successfully managing the AI-driven development process with a single comprehensive prompt. Achieving a fully functional app with offline capabilities, PWA installation support, and a polished user interface entirely through AI was particularly rewarding.

What I learned

This project highlighted the importance of clear, precise communication in AI prompting. Understanding the subtleties of how AI interprets instructions proved critical. I gained valuable insights into leveraging AI for rapid application development and the limitations involved.
