Time ROI Tracker

Inspiration

We track money obsessively—investments, expenses, returns—but rarely think about the return on our time, which is our most valuable and limited resource.

The idea came from a simple realization:
People don’t lack time—they lack visibility into whether their time is helping them grow or slowly slipping away.

Time ROI was inspired by applying financial thinking to daily life:
What if we could measure whether our time is compounding or decaying?

What it does

Time ROI Tracker helps users understand the quality of their time, not just the quantity.

Users log activities and classify them as:

  • Growth
  • Neutral
  • Waste

The app calculates a Time ROI score that reflects whether a user’s time is generating value or being lost.

Key outputs:

  • Daily Time ROI percentage
  • Total time spent
  • Growth vs waste comparison
  • Insight messages based on behavior patterns

How we built it

The app was built using MeDo.dev, a prompt-driven no-code platform.

Instead of writing traditional code, we:

  • Defined a data model for activities (title, duration, category, ROI type)
  • Created computed fields to derive ROI metrics
  • Built a dashboard to aggregate and display insights
  • Iteratively refined the system using prompt-based instructions

The focus was on building a minimal but meaningful system that delivers immediate value.

Challenges we ran into

  • Prompt precision: Translating logic into prompts required careful structuring
  • Aggregation limitations: Computing ratios like ROI percentage required workarounds
  • Balancing simplicity and depth: Keeping the app easy to use while still insightful
  • Time constraints: Delivering a polished product within a limited timeframe

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Transforming a simple concept into a functional product in a short time
  • Creating a system that feels insightful without complex AI
  • Designing a clear and meaningful metric for time quality
  • Delivering a clean and intuitive user experience
  • Building something users can immediately relate to and reflect on

What we learned

  • Prompt-driven development emphasizes clarity of thinking over coding
  • Simple logic can produce powerful insights when framed correctly
  • Users value interpretation and meaning more than raw data
  • Strong concepts with clean execution outperform feature-heavy builds
  • Storytelling significantly impacts how a product is perceived

What's next for time-ROI

  • Integration with calendar and screen time data
  • Automated activity classification
  • Long-term trend analysis
  • Improved visualizations such as heatmaps and reports
  • Personalized recommendations to improve time usage

Time ROI Formula

ROI = \frac{\sum (duration \times roi\_score)}{\sum duration} \times 100
