Inspiration
Due to rising domestic disputes recorded during the global pandemic, we wanted to look into ways where technology can be designed and implemented to reduce interpersonal conflict.
What it does
Time Out allows individuals who are experiencing conflict to pause and recollect for a short 5 minutes. During these 5 minutes, both individuals would have the time to write out their feeling and their desired outcome of the conflict. No interactions are allowed during these 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes are over, the notes that were written by each of the individuals will be shared and both can resume normal communication. If the conflict is still not resolved, both individuals can choose to have an additional 10 minutes of time out. They will have the same opportunity to continue with their notes and it will be shared after the additional time-out period is over.
How we built it
We're building the app through React Native libraries, Android Studio, Nodejs, and MongoDB.
Challenges we ran into
Setting Android virtual device and configuring React Native with work with Android.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We've proud of the overall goal of this app to resolve interpersonal conflict and improve relationships.
What we learned
We've learned to use the Android development framework, React Native framework, and MongoDB functions.
What's next for Time Out
We would love to add additional features and partner with experts to come up with more ways to improve. Some of the ideas that we wanted to add are as follow: Better query during personal note taking time; voice recoding during discussions; ability to contact family counselor and national helpline.
Built With
- android-studio
- mongodb
