Inspiration
We were inspired by other tower defenses as it seems to be a race against the clock. The theme also helped as we thought about how we could deal with the theme of time. Having played Bloons Tower Defense was also a large inspiration for what we intended to do.
What it does
It's a tower defense game where cavemen are invading along a path and you need to place towers down to defend the hourglass, you also have guns if the towers aren't working. The game also scales in difficulty with multiple players and round count, making an engaging and challenging game to compete and see who's the best
How we built it
We built it with Roblox Studio, delegating work among our groupmates. We had a rocky start due to minimal programming experience among all of us, but we were able to work together on a good MVP.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of challenges along the way, primarily with the pathing and the healthbar system, and the fact that this is the first game we have made. Additionally, a strange glitch for tower placement (somehow related to welds) where towers would only spawn sideways took significant resources to deal with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a working game in such a short amount of time, despite all of our setbacks. We are also happy that we were able to shift gears to make a workable product when it became evident that we would not have time to complete the fully intended game.
What we learned
We learned that there are a lot of complications within the code, and also how to create a working pathing system for the enemies.
What's next for Time Defenders
We hope to improve this game further by adding more enemy and tower variety, adding to the complexity overall. Completing the gamne is definitely on the calendar.
