Inspiration
Snapchat lenses can be catalysts of great AR experiences, where emotion meets collectibles. At Wilkins Avenue AR, we grew up in the 90s. We wanted to build a lens for those nostalgic of that era. We also wanted to create a cool experience that uses the latest Lens Studio features including Persistent storage & Connected Lens - all with strong replayability.
What it does
Your movie memories are trapped in the past! Open the capsule (by answering a question) to release them and collect a badge. The portal opens only once a day for 20 seconds. The lens remembers your collection from previous sessions. Thanks to Connected Lenses, you will be able to trade your badges with your friends to complete your collection (coming soon). You will also be able to try the badges on in selfie mode.
How we built it
With passion!
Challenges we ran into
We tested various gameplays, most were a bit too complex for an AR lens - so we decided to use a simple, sleek gameplay and UI. We also ran into technical challenges with Connected Lenses just like some other developers of the Lensathon. We thus did not include the trading system in this version of the experience, but we will update the project to include the feature soon. We will also include the Remote Assets features (as soon as it is available) to add more content to the experience in the near future.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have created a lens that reinvents the Snap AR experience. Our goal was that users see our lens more like a replayable game, rather than a "lens". We will keep innovating by implementing the latest features from Lens Studio in the experience.
What we learned
We learned how to develop an ambitious project in a short timeframe on Lens Studio.
What's next for the project
- Adding the "Trade" option by implementing Connected Lenses
- Adding the "Remote Assets" feature (as soon as it is available) to allow for more content
- Adding the ability to try on the user's collection of badges in selfie mode
