Inspiration

I’ve observed that today’s generation, caught up in technology, work, and endless games, often misses what truly matters—spending time with their loved ones. Devices and distractions come and go, but family will not always be there.

What it does

Through this short film, I simply want to remind people: cherish your family, give them your time, and love them deeply while you still can.

How I built it

This film started as a raw story idea that I refined into a complete script and storyboard with chatgpt. Each scene was then generated visually using Google lab's whisk, followed by touch-ups and detailing in photoshop to ensure character and style consistency.

To bring the stills to life, I used Pixverse V5, Hailuo ai and Kling ai on imagineart for image-to-video animation and cinematic transitions. The narration was recorded with elevenlabs, giving the story an emotional voice.

All clips were then assembled, timed, and sound-designed in Premiere Pro, while final quality enhancement—4K upscale, frame smoothing, and clean motion—was achieved with topazlabs video ai.

This workflow blended AI creativity with human direction, ensuring the final short carried both emotional weight and cinematic polish.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was maintaining character consistency throughout the entire video. Since the story spans multiple timelines—childhood, adulthood, and parenthood—ensuring that Yuki, his mother, and his family all looked and felt the same across every scene required careful refinement.

Another major challenge was conveying emotions authentically. From the mother’s quiet sadness to Yuki’s regret and eventual redemption, capturing subtle expressions and translating them into animation demanded extra attention. Balancing technical execution with emotional storytelling was the most delicate part of the process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that this short film not only achieved a consistent Pixar-style visual quality from start to finish but also managed to deliver deep emotions through AI-powered storytelling. Bringing Yuki’s journey to life—his childhood, his regrets, and his redemption—was a huge creative milestone.

Another accomplishment was blending multiple AI tools seamlessly into one pipeline, from scriptwriting to image generation, animation, voiceover, and final editing. The fact that we were able to turn a simple idea into a polished, emotionally moving film is what makes us truly proud.

What we learned

-How to keep character designs consistent throughout the film, even when showing Yuki as a child, an adult, and a father.

-That when emotions need to take center stage, Pixverse V5 delivers the most natural and expressive animations.

-The importance of refining storyboards before production, as it saves huge time in aligning visuals and emotions later.

-How blending multiple AI tools together—scriptwriting, image generation, retouch, animation, editing, and upscaling—can create a seamless end-to-end workflow.

-That emotional storytelling with AI isn’t just about visuals; it’s about pacing, music, and expressions working in harmony.

-Most importantly, we learned that AI can be a powerful creative partner—but the heart of the story still comes from human intention and empathy.

What's next for Time

The next step is to expand this short into a mini-series of emotional AI-driven stories, each exploring universal themes like family, love, regret, and hope. We also want to refine the process by building a character consistency pipeline so recurring characters can evolve across multiple stories without losing their identity.

Technically, we plan to experiment with longer narrative formats, integrate more advanced lip-sync and facial animation models, and push for even more cinematic quality. Beyond film festivals, our goal is to share these shorts on digital platforms so more people can connect with the core message—cherish your loved ones while you have them.
