Inspiration

As an 11-year-old who wanted to learn how to code, I set out to build something fun and meaningful—not just for me, but for other kids too. I noticed that many learning platforms aren’t that exciting, so I decided to create my own. I wanted to make a place where learning feels like playing. That’s how Tilstem was born: a fun, educational website built by a kid, for kids!

What It Does

Tilstem is an interactive learning website that teaches subjects like math, spelling, general knowledge, and more. Each game is designed to be simple, fun, and educational. It helps users learn through puzzles, quizzes, and playful challenges that improve memory, logic, and academic skills.

How We Built It

I used Bolt to create the main structure of the website, ChatGPT to generate images and content ideas, and Netlify to host the project online. It was a great experience combining these tools to build something from scratch.

Challenges We Ran Into

We ran into a few challenges during development. Sometimes the site wouldn't work the way I expected because of coding errors. Integrating the database was especially tricky—it took time, failed attempts, and lots of debugging. But with patience and problem-solving, we made it work!

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

I’m proud of building a working website that makes learning fun for other kids. I learned how to create a database that stores user data, added cool features like quizzes and games, and made the whole site more interactive. These achievements feel great because I had to work hard to get there.

What We Learned

I learned how to code, build and publish a website, and connect it to a database. More importantly, I learned how to keep going even when things didn’t work the first time. This hackathon gave me the push I needed to turn an idea into something real.

What’s Next for Tilstem

Next, I want to make Tilstem even better by adding more games, customizations, and questions. I also want to make it accessible to learners of all ages. One of my big goals is to reach 10,000 users. To get there, I know I’ll need to keep improving the website and making learning as fun as possible.
