Inspiration

Our inspiration for the TigerX browser extension is rooted in the urgent need to combat the proliferation of fake news and misinformation on the internet. In an era where misinformation can spread like wildfire, we aimed to empower internet users with a tool that promotes critical thinking and helps them distinguish between trustworthy and unreliable sources of information.

What it does

The TigerX browser extension is a powerful tool designed to identify and flag potentially fake news articles as users browse the web. Whenever a user visits a news website or encounters a news article, the extension automatically analyzes the content and asks openai api for source's credibility. It provides users with a reliability score and highlights the likelihood of an article being authentic or fabricated.

How we built it

We built the TigerX browser extension using modern web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We used chatgpt and openai's chatgpt api for querying the news.

What we learned

We learned to integrate openai API and web hosting and efficient github setup

Challenges we ran into

While trying to host through Google Cloud, we ran into problems, and it was quite hard to make the github proficient.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to build an extension that helps users identify fake and misleading news. All the users have to do is download our extension, and with just a click, they can identify fake and misleading news or even videos.

What's next for TigerX

As more and more people use our extension, our dataset will be stronger and we will use multiple apis, and it will provide an unbiased opinion on the topic. Since the opinion of the people matter, TigerX will only get better with time thanks to users involvement and feedback.
