Inspiration

This project was inspired by my own experience doing laundry at Yale. I would often go to the laundry room without knowing how crowded it was, whether machines were available, or if something was broken. I wanted to make that experience easier and less frustrating.

What it does

The site gives students a better idea of what is happening in the laundry room before they go. It includes a section for sharing current conditions, a forecast for predicted traffic, Washline for updates, and machine health for reporting broken washers or dryers.

How we built it

I used Swift in Xcode to build wireframes and the prototype and turn it into something interactive. A lot of the process involved testing different layouts, adjusting the flow between sections, and figuring out how to make features like the Forecast feel more visual and intuitive.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was building the Forecast. Getting the animations and changing background to work took the most trial and error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m most proud of the Forecast because it was the most challenging feature and also became my favorite part of the site. I also like that each feature connects back to a real problem students experience.

What we learned

I learned that design is about much more than making something look good. It is about understanding what people actually need and making information easier and more useful for them.

What's next for Tiffany Wang - Wash Site

Next, I would want to survey more students and test the site with them to better understand what they want from a laundry tool. Based on that feedback, I would keep improving the current features and add new ones, such as notifications when a machine becomes available and and even a small mini game students could play while waiting for their laundry.
