Ties that Bind: A Path to Unity

Project Summary: Ties that Bond: Path to Unity is a reimagining of The Tortoise and the Hare that emphasizes growth, connection, and collaboration. Players guide Blocky (an acronym for our team member’s names) the tortoise as he learns to jump from a frog, sing from a bird, and use these skills to defeat a shadow monster blocking the finish line. In the end, Blocky helps the hare overcome his self-doubt, and they cross the finish line together. Our team created nearly all aspects of the game ourselves, including art, animations, dialogue, and code. Handcrafted animations are showcased in enclosed sprite sheets and GIFs, including both used and unused assets. Due to time constraints, we used Simple Particles FX: Toon Effects and the Fungus Unity Plugin. The original music was composed by Nolan Valero, team member Chelsea’s partner. The title Ties that Bond: Path to Unity represents the race path where Blocky bonds with the frog and bird, ultimately uniting with the hare to complete the journey. It also nods to Unity, the platform used to create the game, and the theme of building connections along the way.
