Inspiration
It's an important topic and it's not given as much attention as we did before due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Around 46% of all adults in the United States are mentally ill and it's a big portion of the population. If it's not given much attention there can be negative effects such as more people getting ill, not getting treated early, and much more. One of our friends suffered from depression and had intentions of attempting numerous times. We were inspired to create a website so that other people who are suffering from the same issues can find a place to confide in and take their mind off problems.
What it does
Our website contains information (guides and tips), a chatbot which responds in an appropriate way after knowing your mood and gives you some suggestions on activities you can do to help yourself cheer up. We also have a game that is like a free painting app, it lets the user create anything and have fun with. It proves that even the little actions can make you feel better inside out.
How I built it
We used Codepen.io for prototyping most of our website, but the final source used for the website making was called Brackets, an IDE used for creating websites. The source used for the friendly robot is called "ChatBot.com." and for game development, we used "Scratch."
Challenges I ran into
We all were new to coding and website developing, making chatbots, and coding a game. Ont top of everything being new, we all were attending our first-ever hackathon! Some of us had experience with website making and coding but some didn't have experience in the required field, which made it hard to give each other roles and parts to talk about. We were also new with chatbot and game development as well. The time length was also a significant problem because we all were new.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
With having everyone fairly new to coding and website making, we did have other skills too such as creative thinking, organization, and much more. We were able to communicate and organize everything quickly. Subsequently, we had very few arguments, which were concluded almost instantly, as we always strived for compromises. We all are proud of all the things we have doing the past 36 hours. Looking at our website makes us proud because we were able to make not just a website, but also an easy game and an accurate chatbot as well
What I learned
Our team learned how to become much more productive and how to proficiently use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
What's next for Tidy Mind
