Inspiration

Our beautiful ocean is like a big tank of fish. Tiny things are called algae can grow also known as blooming, in the water turning it into red or brown. When this happens, it’s called “red tide”. It’s not good for fish that live in the ocean because the algae can use up all the oxygen in the water and make it hard for them to breathe.

What it does

Allowing the user to view live updates about Red Tides at Florida beaches.

How we built it

We using the technologies such as React Native for app development, ExpressJS & Axios for backend, and GitHub for version control. We implemented the Google Map in the Google Cloud into our app.

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints, lack of experiences with TypeScript, some Git problems, and Gradle/Java problem that preventing us to build and run app on the emulator on my teammates' laptop.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Google Map API was successfully implemented it, and the backend API about the Red Tides were successfully implemented.

What we learned

Teamwork, better communication, and be open minded to learn new things.

What's next for Tides Guard

Combine the Backend & the Frontend better. More information about red tides and what can the user to do in the water during the red tides season, such as taking safety measures are necessary.
