Inspiration

We were tired of juggling screenshots, group chats, and random flyers just to keep track of events. If it’s already on our phone, it should be on our calendar. Tidely came from the “why is this so hard?” moment after missing one too many things because we forgot to manually add it.

What it does

Tidely turns event screenshots into structured calendar events. Upload a screenshot or take a picture, and it extracts the date, time, and details, then automatically creates timeslots in your Google Calendar or Apple Calendar.

How we built it

We designed the interface in Figma and used Figma Make to turn our designs into a functional front end quickly. On the back end, we used OCR to read text from screenshots, NLP to structure event details, and calendar APIs to add events directly into Google and Apple Calendar.

Challenges we ran into

Our first few designs in Figma looked nice but weren’t super practical, so we had to keep reworking them. Using Figma Make helped speed things up, but connecting the design to the real functionality still took a lot of trial and error. We also struggled with handling messy screenshots and weird event formats.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We got real screenshots to convert into actual calendar events. It’s fast, clean, and genuinely helpful. We also integrated both Google and Apple Calendar in our first version.

What we learned

Figuring out OCR, calendar APIs, and connecting everything properly involved a lot of trial and error, but Figma Make was very helpful. It also demonstrated how crucial communication and task division are when working in a team.

What's next for Tidely

Next, we want Tidely to be even better at reading messy screenshots and understanding tricky times. We’re also considering adding support for more apps and making it quicker to add events. Ultimately, it would be great if you could take a screenshot and have it automatically added to your calendar without any extra steps. We also aim to improve the app's format and make it more useful for users.
