As a busy mum my number one challenge is - no time! And what perfect way to test out how much time I can save, by vibe coding my way through building a simple timer app, with a twist. With two kids under 5, I'm always looking for creative ways for them to stay focused on the task at hand. With my app, Tick Tock Done!, kids will not only finish tasks on time but have fun doing it!
With a simple reward system built into the visual timer, your kids will be excited to have you start that countdown - instead of dreading those usual taunts of 'Hurry up and finish breakfast!', 'get in the car now!'.
I started and finished this app with less than 10 hours in just under a week! I have very limited coding experience. (I've only ever done HTML!) but I couldn't believe how easy it was to vibe code my way through with Bolt. A project like this would've taken me at least a MONTH before! I was so impressed with how it thought of best practices in the UX/UI, even without me prompting it to. It saved me loads of time and was even able to help me troubleshoot.
The hardest part was getting the authentication with Google right. This took a few tries and troubleshooting - but I was able to use the discuss feature in Bolt to help me figure that out. This app was built ENTIRELY on bolt - and then deployed through Netlify, with Google Cloud for authentication.
I felt like I wasted quite a few tokens getting the UX/UI right. Some planning ahead of time might have saved me a few prompts, but even then - I was able to make changes on the fly and get the app up and running in no time. I wish I knew Figma better, but like I said - coding / UX/UI is not my expertise. This just proves how anyone can figure this out - a simple app in under 10 hours, just coding at nights after the kids are in bed, for a week.
I tried adding an 'add photo or upload photo' feature to the profile section, but found that while Bolt could code the front end, I was running into issues with accessing the camera and loading the file. Bolt wasn't able to troubleshoot this and I ran out of time.
What's next for Tick Tock Done!✅: I'd love to see this on the app store! Before I do, I'll add the photo profile feature and even sound effects as the timer is ticking away and the task gets completed.
