Inspiration We had begun the basic tic-tac-toe in our computer science class, but we wanted it to be more than a boring, two-player game.
What it does It has standard, two-player tic-tac-toe, single player tic-tac-toe against the computer, four-in-a-row, meta tic-tac-toe - a game within a game, and 3-D tic-tac-toe - a game on each side of a theoretical cube battling for dominance. It's meant to be a fun game that anyone can download and pass the time with.
How we built it It is mobile game for android devices written in Java on Intellij-Idea. We built it over the 24-hour period at HackTJ.
Challenges we ran into 3-D tic-tac-toe was difficult to conceptualize, so we had trouble implementing the system of this mini-game. The single player game was hard to create because the "computer" wasn't properly functioning at first. Also, our mentor had to leave for a majority of the event, so we had to trace all the bugs and exceptions on our own - a new challenge for us!
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are very proud of our finished product with a nice layout because we are all first-year computer science students. We had never undertaken a full-length application, so it was awesome putting everything we started to learn together. Also, we had no background in artificial intelligence, so programming the AI was very rewarding for us. Lastly, the 3-D tic-tac-toe was a novel idea that we had, so we liked making this part of the program especially because we had never heard of anything like it before.
