As COVID-19 continues to spread globally, so do feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. From practicing social distancing to adjusting to indefinite remote workforces, employers and employees have had to change their everyday lives drastically. While Zoom has become the darling of remote workers during the crisis, working remote is hard. Many organizations are looking for a solution that will help them engage employees in ways that are sustainable and scalable.
What it does
Employees want to be recognized for their efforts and given the ability to be proud of their colleagues, teams and company, too. thuse.stream addresses the need for remote workers to see and to be seen in virtual workspaces. Our solution includes:
- A growing collection of engaging widgets designed to increase viewer participation
- Stunning ready to use and customizable overlays covering every part of your stream
- A broadcast application that gives you personalization options beyond those offered by Zoom
How I built it
It's important that widgets and overlays be lightweight and responsive. To achieve this, overlays are static sites on the global Cloudflare network. Also, Cloudflare Workers are used to make the widgets highly responsive. Requests for overlays and widgets do not go back to a central server, responses are returned by Cloudflare Workers at the edge of their global network, thereby reducing latency significantly.
Challenges I ran into
Implementing the prototype in a short period of time was difficult, but I took cues from Twitch streaming solutions providers, which sped up development.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm most proud of being able to enhance my upcoming Zoom calls.
What I learned
I learned about edge computing and how Twitch streamers build audiences.
What's next for thuse.stream
We are looking for organizations interested in trying the solution and offer feedback. From there, we'll make it fully integrated and easier to use.ing
