Inspiration

I saw some old pictures on my phone. These were pictures that used to be in physical albums way back in the day. It was nothing fancy. It was hard bind on the outside and soft plastic sheets on the inside with a nice cutout for the photo. That just reminded me of the feeling of opening up a book, a physical album, to see pictures. The sound the plastic sheets made when we turn it. How they used to smell even. After we digitized all of those pictures, we don't even know where the physical albums are anymore. Because they're big and bulky, we don't carry it around when we move cities. So, that made me think that at least the feel of those albums should remain, even if it's digital - just to get a bit of that nostalgia.

What it does

It is just a simple app designed for the iPad mostly but also works on the iPhone. It has a few different album types. You can import photos into it and then it shows up as a physical album visual on your screen. You can turn the page like you were turning the pages on a physical album.

How we built it

Built in Swift and SwiftUI, and with some custom UI work. for getting the UI right. I saw a bunch of photo books and albums that were available online. And mocked up the interactions, then made the designs with cloud design and polished them up as I went along. Then imported the whole thing into cloud code.
