Inspiration

I recently came across an article about "Recycle man" who makes eco-friendly, stronger and cheaper bricks from discarded face masks and I was really fascinated by that because that's a lot of hazardous biomedical waste that's being used for a much better purpose. Later, I kept exploring for more recycling methods and realised that the waste that we throw out everyday is not totally useless. There are people who need this waste. I though this process would be a lot easier and useful if there was a platform where recyclers and waste producers can get in contact.

I finished my 12th during the lockdown, and there were a lot of books everywhere in the house, Neither I found people near home who could make use of it or buy it nor I went out and sold them. I was also too lazy to do that so ended up just throwing most of them. The reselling websites that I found online were time consuming, I had to wait till an user is willing to buy it but in practical, if I had gone out to sell those books, it would've been much faster, easier and I wouldn't have to find an user, I can just sell it to the reseller. Then I needed such service.

What it does

It mainly focuses on the three R's, reuse, reduce and recycle. It has three main components,

1.reusereducerecycle component - people can post stuff to use the waste efficiently and easily at home.

2.donate your waste - people who need waste to reuse or recycle it, can post their contact details, address, procedures to follow in order to get the waste and make best use of the waste that's usually thrown out. Not a lot of people realise the usefulness of the daily waste that's produced in household and that eventually ends up polluting the world, so this shows people how they can contribute in saving the earth just by sitting in their homes.

3.sell your waste - Not everyone's ready to donate the waste, as it might be time consuming or for some other reasons but what if people buy the waste in exchange for money or food or some kind of free resources, this way a lot of waste can be recycled, reused and reduced. This is all virtual so, it's easy, fast and you get to earn something. This way more people would be willing to make use of their waste.

How we built it

We used Angular.js as our framework, html as markup language, css and bootstrap for styling and designing, typescript for programming and github to host the website.

Challenges we ran into

None of the people in the team had proper idea of web development, so this was the main challenge that we faced, we had our exams till 14th so we couldn't attend any of the workshops and basically we had to learn and build everything in just 48 hours.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Designing our very first web page. Though it's not complete, we believe our idea can make a huge impact in protecting the Earth if we work on it. Managing time and working on a project virtually though we never met one another.

What's next for thRRRe

Finishing the backend part, making it practically possible by including different options like delivery of waste, authentication checks for posts to see if the sold or the donated waste is actually being used for a better purpose and making it scalable and improving the UI and UX. The waste delivery and collection option might not seem practically possible but if an entire area or community decide upon donating or selling their waste, the delivery process becomes more feasible, so such options can be added.
