About the Project
Inspiration
The Mental Health in Education Ideathon inspired me to create ThrivEd. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve experienced the pressure and stress that often come with balancing studies and personal well-being. As someone with ADHD, I've also faced unique challenges in managing tasks and staying focused. These personal experiences made me realize how important it is to integrate tools that not only enhance academic performance but also promote mental health. This project was born from the need to create a supportive solution that addresses the emotional needs of both students and educators.
What I Learned
Building ThrivEd taught me the value of designing with empathy, particularly when it comes to mental health. I realized that while productivity is essential, emotional well-being must be prioritized for students and educators to truly thrive. Designing features like mood tracking and stress-relief exercises opened my eyes to how technology can help individuals maintain a balanced state of mind while navigating the pressures of education. It also taught me how important simplicity and accessibility are in an app, as mental health solutions need to be intuitive and easy to use, especially for those who may already be feeling overwhelmed.
How I Built the Project
Drawing from my background in design, I focused on building an app that blends both academic and mental health resources in a seamless and calming interface. I used tools like Figma to create wireframes and prototypes that integrate features such as mood tracking, stress-relief exercises, and community support—tools that I personally would have appreciated during my studies. The goal was to create a platform that offers a safe space for students and educators to manage their emotional well-being while staying organized and productive.
Challenges Faced
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that the app’s features didn’t overwhelm users, especially considering my own struggles with staying focused. Striking the right balance between useful learning tools and mental health features required constant iteration and feedback. I also had to make sure the app was simple and intuitive enough to use without adding to the stress that users might already be experiencing. Balancing innovation with practicality was tough, but it was rewarding to see how my own experiences informed the design process.
