Inspiration
The inspiration came from a team members job working as a sales team leader at a thrift store. Working as a sales team leader, the main challenge on her part was to provide a solution on how to increase the sales of the store. Compared to larger retails, thrift stores have it harder when it comes to sales. That's why we believe Thriftcoin may be the solution to increasing sales for thrift stores. By having one single cryptocurrency that can be used in any thrift store it allows the flexibility in users to spend and earn their Thriftcoin despite the location. This will promote a sense of partnership with other thrift stores, as well as have a stronger motivation to recycle items.
What it does
The main idea of Thriftcoin is to bring the community of thrift stores together by having a common cryptocurrency. This cryptocurrency is ideal as customers can enjoy the experience of earning Thriftcoin through donations of items as well as spend their Thriftcoin to buy items at any thrift stores around the world. The current system is a simple back-end RESTful API server that updates a blockchain.
How we built it
The code was built based upon a GitHub repository that built a Javascript blockchain. We built on top of that code to include transactional data in the blocks.
What's next for Thriftcoin
Integrating with a database to permanently store the blocks and to maintain a ledger for each person's wallet amount as well as creating a simple front-end for users to interface with this back-end.
