Inspiration

Human interactions generally have a multiplicative effect. Even random and chance encounters have the potential to make or break your day. So a device that would help generate such opportunities sounded like a fun thing to make.

What it does

The 'spools' randomly generate a token and wait for another spool to guess the correct code. If so, a connection is made and the spindles simultaneously light up alerting to their respective owners that a chance encounter is up for grabs.

How we built it

Two arduino boards, each having a bluetooth module, lots of wires, lots and lots of tape, a portable 9V battery. The communication between the Arduinos is in the form of a simple handshake protocol, and on completion, the led rings are programmed to light up until the user decides to switch it off with the button.

Challenges we ran into

I know zilch about hardware.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I now no longer know just zilch about hardware, it's now a mulch.

What we learned

How to implement an embedded system from scratch

What's next for Threads of Fate

Hoping that these omnipotent devices will lead me to an encounter with the nearest pillow.
