High-school graduation rate. The problem that need to be solved, though there were many solutions proposed and tried, it still haunts USA from progressing into becoming a more productive society.
During high school, teenagers go through a transforming stage of their lives, and at this stage they are most vulnerable. There are many issues that haunt teenagers, be it social dynamics or school work or domestic abuse.
Data for diplomas has made me research about the problems faced by teenagers before and during high school. My inspiration has been to combine these data sets and provide a solution to administrators and parents to help these students graduate on time to become a productive member of the society.
What it does
Threads is in young stage at this point. We have collected data from different sources and made visualizations to understand the similarities and difference in the data.
Challenges I ran into
Biggest challenges were to analyze data from different sources and tracking trends.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
An idea can move mountains. I am proud that even though I couldn't come up with a solution, I was able to come up with a way to croud-source this problem encourage people to find and test solutions.
What's next for Threads
Once released to public, threads will achieve the following goals. 1) Threads will provide a platform for teachers, parents, school administrators etc. to do the following: ---> Using data, find school districts with similar problems. ---> Log any solutions that are being tried to curb a problem at their respective school destrict ---> Access solutions that other schools have tried and see how it has effected the progress of the school. 2) The aspect of Threads that inspires me is bringing data together and this is how it will be used: ---> In January www.crisistextline.org will release data to the public about problems that effect teenagers. Crisis Text Line collects text messages that teenagers have sent them and analyzes the messages to get insights about what is going on in their life and what is effecting their mental health. ---> Integrating this data on the platform will be a vital tool for school districts to have a perspective from the other side (student's) ---> This will help schools streamline the solutions to be more effective.
