Inspiration
The lack of insulation in homes leads to health issues, such as mental health problems and respiratory issues, particularly for children. 9.6 million UK households are living in heat-leaking, poorly insulated homes.
In the UK, approximately 350,000 tonnes of clothing waste are sent to landfills each year.
What it does
Provides an extra insulation layer to existing walls to reduce heat loss and moisture-related issues.
How we built it
Making the individual insulation layers using air-laying using biobased binders. Each layer is made using a different process.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out the production process of the wallpaper and the system of layers found within the wallpaper.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Producing a cost-effective, socially-inclusive and environmentally friendly concept for helping people suffering from fuel poverty.
What we learned
Discovered the material science behind the production of the insulating wallpaper. We also learnt about the scale of fuel poverty and textile waste in the UK.
