Inspiration

Modern work is spread across too many tools.

A simple project can involve emails, calendar events, documents, notes, and tasks scattered across different places. People don't struggle because they lack information—they struggle because the information they need is fragmented.

We wanted to build a workspace that thinks in terms of projects instead of apps.

That idea became Thread.

What it does

Thread helps users understand their work without hunting for information.

The Morning Brief provides a clear overview of priorities, deadlines, meetings, and important updates.

Work Threads automatically group related information into project-based views, making it easier to understand the full context behind a task or initiative.

Universal Search allows users to ask questions and retrieve information from across their workspace.

AI Insights proactively identify potential risks, missed follow-ups, and scheduling conflicts.

Field Pulse analyzes the user's recent work focus and surfaces relevant trends, developments, and news from around the world, helping users stay informed without actively searching for updates.

How we built it

Thread was built using React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, GPT-5.6, and Codex.

GPT-5.6 was used throughout the product development process for brainstorming, user experience design, feature planning, information architecture, and refining the overall product vision.

Codex played a major role in accelerating development by helping implement components, refine the interface, iterate on features, debug issues, and improve the overall user experience.

The project was developed through rapid iteration, with continuous feedback guiding both product and design decisions.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was deciding what not to build.

Many productivity tools try to become another inbox, another task manager, or another AI chatbot. We wanted Thread to feel different.

Another challenge was creating a simple interface while still surfacing meaningful insights from connected information.

We spent significant time refining the user experience so that the product felt calm, focused, and useful rather than overwhelming.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The accomplishment we are most proud of is creating a product that focuses on a real and relatable problem rather than simply adding another AI chatbot to the market.

We successfully transformed the concept of fragmented work into a unified experience that feels intuitive and approachable.

We are particularly proud of Field Pulse, which extends the workspace beyond internal information and helps users stay informed about developments related to the projects and topics they are actively working on.

We are also proud of creating a clean and focused user experience that prioritizes clarity over complexity.

What we learned

We learned that productivity is often a context problem rather than a task problem.

People already have the information they need. The challenge is bringing that information together in a way that makes it actionable.

We also learned how GPT-5.6 and Codex can dramatically accelerate product development, prototyping, iteration, and design decisions.

What's next for Thread

Future versions of Thread will connect with Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Notion, and Google Drive.

We also plan to expand Field Pulse, allowing users to automatically track industry developments and opportunities related to their active projects and areas of work.

Our vision is to create a unified intelligence layer across a person's entire work ecosystem.
