Inspiration

The inspiration for ThoughtTrails stemmed from the need to manage the constant flow of thoughts that often get lost or muddled throughout the day. Whether it’s forgetting a key insight or struggling to revisit and build on previous ideas, we realized there was a need for a tool that could seamlessly capture, organize, and prompt deeper thinking. We wanted to create a solution that helps users save time and enhances their cognitive processes.

What it does

ThoughtTrails is an intuitive app designed to capture your thoughts as they come, organize them into structured categories, and provide summaries so you always know where you stand with each idea. It prompts you with questions to help deepen your thinking and lets you pick up where you left off. It's your thought organizer, ensuring that no idea is lost or left unfinished.

How we built it

We built ThoughtTrails using React Native. A lot of our code is generated by LLMs like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Revenuecat handled the subscription service, which saved us a ton of headaches. The user interface was designed with simplicity and functionality, emphasizing ease of use while maintaining robust features.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was integrating the AI features in a way that felt natural and non-intrusive to the user. Balancing the depth of the AI’s insights with a user-friendly experience required extensive testing and iterations. Additionally, using Revenuecat saved us a ton of time and headaches.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re particularly proud of creating a seamless experience that helps users organize and revisit their thoughts effortlessly. The AI-driven summaries and prompts have received positive feedback for their ability to guide users in deeper thinking without overwhelming them. We also take pride in the clean, intuitive design that makes the app accessible to many users.

What we learned

Throughout the development of ThoughtTrails, we learned the usefulness and shortcomings of LLM-generated codes. We have made tremendous progress, but so much more automation could be done. Also, testing subscriptions using a sandbox is a flaky endeavor. Thanks to Revenuecat for helping us along the way.

What's next for ThoughtTrails

The future of ThoughtTrails includes expanding its AI capabilities to provide even more personalized insights and prompts. We aim to integrate with other productivity tools, making ThoughtTrails a central hub for organizing and enhancing all aspects of personal and professional thought processes.
