Inspiration
Most people have moments of clarity when talking to AI—ideas, plans, or ambitions that feel exciting in the moment but are quickly forgotten after the conversation ends.
We noticed that current AI tools don’t help users retain those thoughts. The conversation ends, and the idea is gone.
So we asked: What if AI could also act as a “lost and found” for your thoughts? That idea led to ThoughtReturn.
What it does
ThoughtReturn is a concept design of a platform that combines:
AI Chat Interface — where users explore and develop ideas Idea Dashboard — where important thoughts are stored and revisited
Instead of losing ideas after a single interaction, users can:
Save meaningful insights from chats Revisit and continue developing them Keep a growing collection of ideas in one place
How we built it
We designed ThoughtReturn entirely in Figma as a prototype.
Our process:
Created a Gemini-style chat interface for familiarity Designed a dashboard system to store ideas Built reusable UI components Focused on dark/light mode consistency Ensured clean layout, spacing, and intuitive navigation
Challenges we ran into
Translating an abstract idea like “saving thoughts” into a clear UI pattern Balancing chat vs storage so neither feels secondary Fixing alignment issues in chat layout and floating elements Avoiding feature overload while keeping the concept meaningful
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Turning a philosophical idea into a tangible product concept Designing a UI that feels familiar yet introduces a new behavior Creating a solution for a real user pain point Delivering a polished prototype within hackathon constraints
What we learned
Ideas need structure to survive beyond the moment UX matters more than adding features Simplicity helps users understand new concepts faster Figma can simulate real product experiences effectively
What's next for ThoughtReturn
AI-powered detection of important ideas Tagging and categorization system Transition from prototype to functional product Reminders to revisit old ideas Collaboration and sharing features
