Inspiration

This project was inspired by personal experience. When a child comes out to their parents, many strong emotions may arise in the moment. This guided journal is a way for parents to process their emotions after that conversation.

Who is it for and what it does

This application is for parents of queer children. It is to help guide them through their emotions after their child comes out to them or if they want some more information about what being queer means and how to support their child best.

How we built it

We built a guided journal React application utilizing JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Accessibility

Because of our target audience, we decided to use simpler language and a simple design. We did this because our audience may not understand terms such as "coming out" or "queer" and may not be native English speakers.

What We Did

Zarif - content manager and designer; Sanjna - Front-End and Dev; Gayatri - Front-End and Dev

Challenges we ran into

CSS Animation and Routing

What's next for ThoughtQloud

This application can be easily created into a simple website. This product can guide a parent's mindset regarding this topic and lead to more open conversations. In the future, we can incorporate a demographic questionnaire to help tailor the reflection quiz more to the demographic and a button that says "leaned enough" that can take you to a resources page. We would also expand on topics such as religion. We could also include prompts to start a conversation with your child, terminology, and dos and don'ts.
