Inspiration

I wanted to create a simple mental health app that is straightforward and easy to use. All of the apps that I have tried so far have been super complicated and annoying to use. I personally have a big passion for gardening so I wanted to combine gardening with mental health to create this virtual garden app.

What it does

Using react native's sentiment analysis package, you type in your thoughts and it tells you whether it's positive, negative, or neutral. Based on that thought, you can plant a seedling into your garden and to water it you have to reflect on your negative thoughts the more positive sentiments you put in, the more it grows and the more beautiful your virtual garden becomes.

How we built it

I used react native and many dependencies like sentiment dependency, react-native-safe-area-context, expo-router, and more. This was built on VS Code all by myself.

Challenges we ran into

I had trouble with getting the app to show past entries but after a lot of trial and error, I was able to fix that problem!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This app sort of gamifies mental health which will make many people enjoy using it.

What we learned

I need to learn more about UI/UX design and animation to make the garden tab of the app more beautiful and functional.

What's next for Thought Garden

I have huge plans for Thought Garden. I am 100% going to publish this on the app store and I want to add an advanced pattern function that helps users actually see trends in their thoughts and I want to add AI to the app to directly assist users with their mental health. I also want to make the garden tab better by adding animations and making the functionality better.
