Why: In light of the AI boom, we wanted to make an experience that brings awareness to the environmental impacts that AI can have, fostering a dialogue in this new era of artificial intelligence.
What it does: Tells a short story about making hidden costs visible while still maintaining a level of fun through bite-sized physics-based puzzles.
How we built it: Unity, OpenXR, a lot of free assets and two boxes of costco pizza
Challenges we ran into: Actually building the experience (lots of small things that could be easily missed), getting used to VR development (both first timers)
Accomplishments that we're proud of: The light reflection puzzles, message,
What we learned: The basics of VR development in Unity with OpenXR, how to delegate tasks and put in a lot of work in an extended focused session, environmental statistics about the costs of AI that may not be immediately obvious.
What's next for Thirst for Knowledge: Polishing the game, bugfixing, and eventually releasing for free onto itch and hopefully the Meta store.
