ThinkCourt helps people strengthen critical thinking by guiding them through structured reasoning, evidence evaluation, counterarguments, and reflection instead of giving instant answers.

Inspiration

AI is highly adept at providing answers, yet instant answers do not always foster better thinkers. I want to explore another role for AI: helping people strengthen their reasoning skills, rather than simply serving up conclusions.

What it does

ThinkCourt is an AI-powered reasoning coach that guides users through a structured critical thinking process.

Users can either explore their own claim or choose from guided cases across Education, Work, and Technology. Every session follows four stages:

  • Foundation
  • Evidence
  • Challenge
  • Reflection

Instead of providing the "right" answer, ThinkCourt asks guiding questions, encourages evidence-based reasoning, introduces counterarguments, and ends with a Reasoning Snapshot that summarizes the user's thinking process.

How we built it

I built ThinkCourt using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Vercel.

GPT-5.6 helped design the reasoning framework and coaching experience, while Codex accelerated implementation by assisting with React components, TypeScript development, debugging, and overall application architecture.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was designing an experience that encourages critical thinking instead of becoming another chatbot. We also worked to make the reasoning flow feel structured, engaging, and easy to follow within a simple interface.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud to have transformed a simple idea into a polished MVP within the Build Week timeframe.

Instead of building just another AI chatbot, we created a guided reasoning experience that encourages users to examine assumptions, evaluate evidence, address counterarguments, and reflect before reaching a conclusion.

I am also proud to have designed a clean, intuitive user experience, delivered a complete end-to-end reasoning flow, and successfully launched the live application and open-source repository ahead of the deadline.

What we learned

This project showed us that AI can do more than generate answers. With thoughtful interaction design, it can encourage people to ask better questions, evaluate evidence, and think more critically.

What's next for ThinkCourt

The next step is to replace deterministic reasoning pathways with fully dynamic, GPT-5.6-based coaching, expand the library of guided cases, and add long-term progress tracking features so users can continuously enhance their critical thinking skills.
