Inspiration

We've actually been interested in vertical farming and its implications for a long time, and we've been doing some research about what it can truly do for the problems of our world.

What it does

Think Vertical is a project based around using vertical farming to combat mosquito-borne viruses, in tandem with other issues like deforestation and climate change (since those two issues greatly affect mosquitoes and their proliferation). We plan to connect farmers to investors and spread vertical farming to as many people as possible in areas of high deforestation.

How we built it

We built our website prototype using Weebly. We have not been able to code a machine learning prototype yet, but when we do we will build it using the appropriate software.

Challenges we ran into

When we were writing our research paper, we found a lot of information that contradicted our beliefs and other facts about vertical farming. It was an ordeal searching through misinformation to find the truth. Also, we had some complications/technical difficulties with the website (because of our time constraints).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We believe that our proposal is extremely feasible, and we're proud of our project and all that we managed to get done in the time that we had!

What we learned

We learned a lot about vertical farming and how it interlinked with many environmental issues, and we exercised our brains a lot in finding a solution for multiple problems at once, albeit the main focus being on health. We also learned a lot about how to make our website's user interface exciting and eye-catching, and we learned about how to avoid misinformation when searching for sources for our research paper.

What's next for Think Vertical

We plan to code our machine learning interface next, and we also need to acquire funding to finalize our website/get it off the ground, as well as secure venture capital for our undertaking as well as investors for vertical farmers.
