Think Vertical

Inspiration

We were inspired by how young people like Greta Thunberg are able to make an impact on the world by leading the fight against climate change. When we learned about vertical farming, we immediately knew that it would make a huge impact on the world, and we wanted to be part of making that happen. If this hackathon is that part, so be it!

What it does

Think Vertical is a platform that connects budding vertical farmers to enthusiastic investors. This enables the shift to more sustainable farming like vertical farming and decreases deforestation, as well as brings attention to the important issue of climate change.

How we built it

We used Weebly to create the website where investors and vertical farmers can sign up to be connected to each other and to learn more about vertical farming. For our presentation and research paper, we used Google Docs and Google Slides. We hope to develop a more comprehensive website/app for this project in the future.

Challenges we ran into

Before joining this hackathon, we had no experience with either coding or vertical farming. We had to find an alternate way besides coding to create our project and bring our vision to life, and we did all of our research from scratch without much help.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our website is functional! Since we haven't made many websites like this before, we are proud of how good it looks. Along with that, we also managed to write our first research paper!

What we learned

We learned that there is truly hope for the world in places where you would not expect to find it (ex. a more modern way of farming), and we also gained a lot of experience from this hackathon that we can use in future hackathons and projects we do.

What's next for Think Vertical

We intend to develop our website further and find environmentally-dedicated professionals to work with to further our idea and actually start implementing it for interested farmers and investors.
