Inspiration

Filter Bubbles and other forms of bias piqued my interest as it reminded me of an old metaphor I created years ago: "It's about the branches, not the leaves."

That phrase was a simple way to remind myself that when dealing with opposing ideas; one should not look at all the brightly colored leaves that all look so different; but, to look at the underlying branches and how they work their way to a single trunk. No matter how separate our ideas might appear, somewhere underneath one can find common branches.

Background

I have used RASA, OpenCyC, and recently, IBM Watson and wondered if the graph database could be used to help find and illuminate the commonality at the branches (aka applying Centrality). In this Blog by Sudha Vijayakumar, I read about working models of RASA, ConceptNet being used to build a ChatBot. How could this work help to jumpstart my discovery process.

Fostering Critical Thinking

The process would include: search out all possible Points of View (POVs) using available APIs from TwitterAPI, NEWSAPI, GoogleTrend. Results would be stored in TigerGraph; the "Topics of Interest" would be used as seeds to finding a list of potential commonalities.

This information would then be feed to one of many possible AI models to produce a TV Script for a Virtual Human talk show host. The innovative use of the virtual human is an attempt to present the Top 5 or 10 Points of View first. Exposing the audience to alternate POVs, then present the common branches as a means of showing where the 'common ground' might be..

The intended platform for these shows would be Live and on-demand YouTube and Twitch.

Lessons Learned

The GoogleTrend results were more like aliases; no POV's or Common thoughts. In a future version the top 5 hits might be fed back into the system to find more POVs. The Twitter results were simply too random; a new 'bucketing' filter would be required. The NEWSAPI.ORG Titles turned out to be an excellent resource. These were journalist actively trying to write a topic title that would inspire people from different BUBBLES to read the rest of the article.

What's next for THINK Outside the Bubble!

More AI in terms of asking Interview Questions on the talk show and likely re-targeting rendering engines to Unreal, Unity, or other new metaverses as those platforms explode in number.
