Inspiration
As technology grows and what can do online gets more and more advanced, we believe that many people struggle to not fall victim to hacks, whether it be from phishing emails or weak passwords. So we decided to create an app that educates users on what a phishing email may look like and test their password strength.
What it does
Our app allows allows users to test their passwords and learn how difficult or easy it may be to crack them, in addition to allowing them to be able to send an attempted phishing email. The difference with our phishing emails are that instead of collecting any user information, if the link is clicked they will be taken to a website to learn about the effects of phishing.
How we built it
We started trying to make a website with a password checker and other cybersecurity awareness tools, but it then began to evolve into an app to help simplify the project.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenges we faced were definitely learning to use our java skills to make an android app, as we are a team of all first year hackers with relatively new programming experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of
All of it! The app took a lot of effort to implement the various APIs, but when it all began to come together we were very excited!
What we learned
We learned how to use maven to create a java library, how to enable a user to send an email from our app, and that we should have started brain storming earlier :)
What's next for TechNoHow
Our next steps will likely involve evolving the app to make it easier to use and potentially include more functionality
