TheyWorkforAZ is a web application that allows citizens to keep track of their state elected officials in Arizona (and other states through the open source programming), track the legislation that is of importance to them and follow their leaders' legislative social network. One of the biggest frustrations for Arizonans is trying to find out what’s going on at the state legislature through the azleg.gov site. Users need bill numbers to track legislation, can’t get video to load and can’t find out who is doing what. TheyworkforAZ.us puts the power back in the hands of the people. In the current phase of the application, users can easily find out who their elected officials are based on geo-location and can follow which bills those representatives are sponsoring or co-sponsoring. Users can also easily enter in keywords instead of bill numbers to find out what legislation might impact K-12 education or abortion. Planned features would allow citizens to opt-in to push notifications whenever legislation they are interested in is submitted or voted upon, ability to put a virtual yard sign on their social networking pages supporting a legislator, to see bill histories and to read transcripts of comments made on the Sentate and House floors.
