Inspiration :sparkles::
As first-year students, we know better than anyone how confusing navigating college can be. Students are driven to advance their academics/career but many are stuck, unsure what opportunities and resources are available to them. Through TheTreeOfWisdom individuals will receive knowledge and successfully continue their journey of learning/growing on the yellow brick road.
What it does:
TheTreeOfWisdom makes use of a dynamic AI chatbot to give specifically curated advice for individual students based on their circumstances. Students are prompted to log in to an account in order to keep track of progress. They are then able to access different branches of the wisdom tree--Opportunities, Career, College & Major, Not sure yet--that are connected to different aspects of a student’s life. Users will then be able to track and look back on their professional/academic progress throughout the yellow brick road.
How we built it:
We made use of Azure through Microsoft Foundry to create the dynamic chatbot portion of our web application. In addition we made use of FireCrawl, which allowed it access to the internet.
Challenges we ran into:
Our deployment kept failing and we struggled to incorporate Gemini for our chatbot portion of our application. We tried different models and other chatbots since having a dynamic chatbot was a crucial aspect of our web application, but nothing seemed to work out until we turned to Microsoft Azure. They offered $100 in student credits that we could apply to our projects, without having to pay in advance, that would allow us to incorporate the chatbot into our build.
Accomplishments that we are proud of:
We are very proud of getting the chatbot to actually work. It was the biggest challenge we faced in order to make our website as interactive as we had originally imagined. It took hours of our time to test, look up, and find new options that we could utilize, and managing to actually get it to work felt like a huge burden off our back. We're really happy that it worked out so well!
What we learned:
We learned how to incorporate multiple technologies in our project. We also learned how to take on challenges that were outside of our comfort zone, and didn't let any setbacks deter us. We were able to expand on our professional communication skills and strengthen how to concisely provide an overview of our work :four_leaf_clover:.
What’s next:
Our next step would be to add servers to our project that would allow users to save their data beyond their desktop. :crystal_ball: As of current, the program saves data locally to the user's browser. We would want to get some experience in SQL to learn how to properly store the user's information across platforms. Another aspect we would like to expand on is the graphic and visual details: something we're interested in doing is changing the visual appearance of our web application based on what time of the day the user opens it to use.
