Thetoon! - Manga/Anime Web3 Platform

Inspiration

My passion for anime and the recognition of the vast potential in the anime/manga industry led to an exciting fusion of ideas. I saw Theta, a leading blockchain in media and entertainment, as an opportunity to enhance this industry in innovative ways. Envisioning a platform that blends elements of Kickstarter, Webtoon, and Netflix within the realm of anime/manga, I was inspired to create Thetoon!

What it does

Thetoon! is a unique blend of a web3 platform, functioning as a Kickstarter for anime/manga creators, a Webtoon for readers and viewers, and a Netflix for exclusive anime/manga content. It offers a unique space for enthusiasts to interact with and support their favorite content.

Much like Kickstarter, Thetoon! provides creators with a platform to raise funds for their projects. They can mint their creations as NFTs, allowing fans to support them directly. This introduces a new form of crowdfunding directly on the platform, giving creators access to a dedicated fan base.

Thetoon! emulates Webtoon in providing a user-friendly platform for manga readers, offering a diverse range of content. Users can read, collect, and even own their favorite manga series through the purchase of NFTs.

Finally, similar to Netflix, Thetoon! also curates an extensive library of anime for fans to stream. However, it takes it a step further, allowing users to own a piece of their favorite shows as NFTs, adding a unique dimension to the viewing experience.

How we built it

We leveraged the Theta blockchain to develop Thetoon!, catering to the specific needs of anime/manga lovers and creators. We crafted smart contracts to facilitate secure transactions, and we integrated TheteEdgeStore for decentralized storage of large data like anime episodes and manga chapters.

We combined the functionalities of Kickstarter, Webtoon, and Netflix to create a multi-faceted platform. The front-end was built with ReactJS and ThirdwebSDK for easy blockchain interactions, while NodeJS was used for the back-end, interfacing with the Theta blockchain.

Successfully blending aspects of Kickstarter, Webtoon, and Netflix into a single web3 platform for anime/manga enthusiasts is a milestone we're incredibly proud of. We've also enabled creators to monetize their work in novel ways, which is a significant achievement in promoting the anime/manga culture.

What we learned

Through this project, we have deepened our understanding of Theta blockchain, NFTs, and how to integrate various platform functionalities. We learned how to utilize blockchain technology effectively in the media and entertainment industry, specifically for anime/manga.

What's next for Thetoon! - Manga/Anime Web3 Platform

We aim to integrate staking and community governance features to enhance user involvement and create more value on the platform. Furthermore, we plan to expand our content library by partnering with more creators. Ultimately, we aspire to develop a mobile app to make Thetoon! more accessible and provide an enhanced user experience.
