Inspiration

I'm in the last semester of my Master's study at the University of Copenhagen. You spend 4-6 months writing your thesis, a pretty long time considering no one other than your supervisor often reads it. So why not set up something that works for everyone? Linking these students to web3 and tokenized organizations gives them a chance to use this time to the fullest by solving the real challenges, business, tech, marketing that the organizations have. For the web3 companies and DAOs, they get a head start in recruiting and trialing top talent.

What it does

Thesis DAO provides a portal for student to enter the future of work coordinated by DAOs and web3 by aggregating research, thesis based bounties, internships and entry level web3 jobs. We partner with student societies which nominate and verify students to enter the platform. The long term vision is to work will all student societies to integrate DAO tooling into their processes so they can take advantage of the new world of web3.

In more detail, organizations pose specific research questions and offer rewards in stablecoin, native token, or a base-layer token (or a combination) for student researchers or student groups interested in solving the challenges posed by the organizations. These tokens are locked in a smart contract when the organization selects a student or group which they would like to work with. Funds are distributed based on successful completion of requirements set by the parties with digital signatures required from : the student, issuing web3 organization, university supervisor, referring student society and thesisDAO.

Business Model:

To ensure long-term economic viability of the ThesisDAO, 5% of the value of each thesis or research listing that is successfully completed will be transferred to the treasury of ThesisDAO, 3% will go to the treasury of the student society. ThesisDAO wants to be a part of the journey of our web3 partners.

Organizations that offer internships or entry-level positions will pay a small fee for listing them in their native token which will enter the treasury of the ThesisDAO, in stablecoin if they are not tokenized. Where feasible ThesisDAO will stake these tokens for a minimum of six months in order to show our support. Otherwise, we will hold them within our treasury for a period of at least six months. A portion will go to the student society referring the students.

How we built it

ThesisDAO from the tech side is just in the beginning :) The first step has been launching an AstroDAO which will prepare us to build out the rest of the functionality in the future and to get started on NEAR.

Challenges we ran into

I'm not very familiar with programming on NEAR and am a junior developer - why I went with AstroDAO where it was super easy to set up an DAO.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Before going full in on the building, I wanted to take the chance to link up with the NEAR ecosystem to see if ThesisDAO and working with students would be something they would support within their own organization and if yes, what needs could it fill. The result were super positive!

Representatives from SweatCoin, Beexperience, Covalent, Aurora, Metapool, Open Forest Protocol, Lifetise, Mintbase, The Graph and Raiz all confirmed they were interested and would potentially use a platform like ThesisDAO. Contacts have been made, telegram group formed and ThesisDAO has over the course of the conference gone from just me, to a network of interested organizations <3

That ThesisDAO has the potential to go from idea to the next level :)

What's next for ThesisDAO

Big things! Being at NEARCON and talking to the organizations has given me lots in excitement about the ThesisDAO. In the next months, I'll be getting the first partnerships up and going both with the web3 organizations on NEAR and with 10 blockchain societies at a mixture of technical, creative, and business universities- onboarding them into AstroDAO tools so they can accept crypto rewards. Next will be vetted student profiles by the societies, and NFT credentials for them- aiming to have the platform MVP up by Christmas and going full force by next semester :)
