Inspiration

Growing up, my mom and I had a weekend ritual — exploring new restaurants around our city. But over time, we noticed something frustrating: the places promoted on social media rarely matched the hype. They were polished for the camera, but the food lacked the soul we knew our culture had. It made me wonder: If locals like us get misled… what about tourists? I realized visitors often miss the everyday dishes, family-run shops, and hidden gems that truly hold the spirit of our culture. These Streets was born from the desire to preserve that authenticity and help people experience the real flavors of a city, the way locals do.

What it does

These Streets is a local-verified food discovery app that eliminates influencer traps and fake reviews. Only real locals can review. Tourists upvote based on real experience. Core features include:

  • TheSwipe: A Tinder-style dish generator powered by GPS.
  • Tourman: Book verified locals to guide you to hidden gems. -My List: Auto-organized food plans and walking routes. Our goal: help travelers eat authentically while preserving local culture. ## How we built it
  • GPS location logic for local verification
  • AI-driven recommendation flow for dish suggestions
  • UI/UX wireframes built for mobile-first navigation
  • Database schema for reviews, Tourmen, and restaurants
  • A curated cultural data model to highlight everyday local dishes

  • Designing fair, unbiased ranking systems
  • Balancing cultural authenticity with tourist usability
  • Creating a model that benefits restaurants without paid promotions -Building a Tourman system that remains safe, verified, and scalable ## Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Building the first authentically local review system
  • Protecting hidden restaurants and helping them be discovered
  • Turning everyday culture into something globally accessible ## What we learned
  • The importance of designing with culture first, not technology first
  • Tourists value honesty more than convenience
  • Locals want a way to share their identity, not just their opinion
  • Food discovery must be visual, simple, and personal
  • A system is only trustworthy if the people behind it are ## What's next for These Streets x DaHacks 4.0
  • Launching a pilot in Hanoi and Saigon
  • Partnering with hidden local restaurants
