Inspiration
Given the current state of the planet, our team decided a thermostat that displayed your carbon footprint was essential for having a greater understanding of the impact you have on the environment. By adjusting the temperature based on your desired liking and depending on whether there are people in the room, countless kWh and kg of carbon dioxide can be eliminated from the atmosphere.
What it does
Thermax is a revolutionary thermostat that is able to adjust the current temperature of a room in conjunction with user comfort levels and based on the current occupancy of a room. By being able to change the temperature based on season and daily needs, this device saves countless dollars and the planet itself. The thermostat works in conjunction with a mobile app and a Google Home to maximize efficiency and to be able to view all data in real-time to improve how you operate your thermostat.
How we built it
The thermostat itself was built with Arduino and functions with a thermistor, servo, and LCD display. The mobile app was prototyped in Figma, and the Google Home function was created and tested through the Google Cloud software.
Challenges we ran into
Being inexperienced with Google Home, it was challenging learning a new language and method of communication with the device.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proud to have learned so much in so little time and given the current circumstances regarding covid. This was our first time developing a test app with Google Home, which is a big accomplishment.
What we learned
There was a big learning curve with integrating all the software and learning Google Cloud. We were able to use actions consol to interact with a Google Home.
What's next for Therminimizer
We hope to implement sunblock control, smart-learning technology, and to eventually integrate it with other Smart Home technology.
