Inspiration
Mental health is an important issue to both members of our team, but as busy college students, we understood that it sometimes took a backseat to classwork, extracurriculars, and relationships. We wanted to find a solution that encourages us to engage in mental wellness activities and connect us with people close to us to make sure we make progress in self-care.
What it does
This website combines self-care practices and a less committed version of therapy onto one easy to use platform. On this website, users can upload vlogging experiences, journal their thoughts, and participate in their community to promote mental wellness. They can also link their therapist's information to keep them informed of progress.
How we built it
The bulk of this website was through Velo by Wix for design and backend modifications. We also used Twilio API to connect the user with their therapist.
Challenges we ran into
There were several obstacles over this weekend that we had to overcome. First, it was only us two, and we wanted to create a lot of different mental care options, so accomplishing that alone was a huge task. Also, one of us is a first time hacker, so the pace and demand for adaptability was an adjustment. And neither of us had used any of the platforms before, so there was a bit of a learning curve. Fortunately, these tools were fairly intuitive and there was plenty of documentation to help us through it
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of adapting our skill sets to the different challenges of using Velo, and having built a website that addresses an issue very important to us.
What we learned
We learned about Velo and the different tools available to us, adapting scope of a project to meet deadlines, how to work within the limits of the single editor at a time, and the importance of flexibility.
What's next for TherapYou
The next steps for therapyou would be continued integration of a community feature for therapists and clients to post alike, further integration with messaging for enabling a therapist’s messages to twilio to show up in our chat.
