Inspiration

1 in 5 Americans suffers from a mental illness. Anxiety disorders are the highest reported mental health issue in the US with 42.5 million Americans claiming to suffer from this illness. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. It is the second leading cause of death for ages 44 and under and the fifth leading cause of death for ages 45 – 54. For every woman who dies by suicide, four men die by suicide, but women are 3x more likely to attempt suicide. Every statistic mentioned counts towards “documented” statistics and we still have a large number, of people who are not educated enough or have been stigmatized towards this issue for whatever reason or belief. In today's fast-paced world, an increasing number of individuals are grappling with mental health challenges. Traditional mental health services often come with barriers such as high costs, lack of personalization, and societal stigma, which can deter individuals from seeking the help they need.

What it does

therApI, as the name suggests by capitalization, is a revolutionary mental health platform designed to make personalized support accessible and stigma-free, integrating AI technology with a community-centric approach. Additionally, it includes an emergency support feature, leveraging AI to detect distress signals and offer immediate assistance. therApI aims to democratize mental health care, embodying a movement towards a more empathetic society where mental wellness is prioritized and accessible.

How I built it

html, css, javascript for the frontend, langchain for RAG and model training, and openai

Challenges I ran into

challenges in training the model, having too many pdf files in training the model.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Implementing RAG model learnt during the microsoft/cloudforce workshop today, and training an llm model to achieve what the aim of our site was.

What I learned

We learnt how to implement RAG model using longchain, and by doing research the various things.

What's next for therApI

Building a Community Forum. We want to build a text-based forum for users to share their experiences and healthy practices anonymously. Emergency Services. We want the app to be able to automatically alert emergency services if a user is suspected to put themselves in harm’s way. Integration with Mental Health Service Providers. We also want to provide an interface for mental health professionals to anonymously render services to users through the app.
