The problem
When work is spread across many AI conversations, returning to a project means finding the right chat and reconstructing its context. TheOne is built around one main chat that can route a message to the relevant topic and resume that topic's working session.
What it does
TheOne is an open-source community plugin for DeepSeek Harness (DSH). A fixed main-chat entry provides access to separate topic sessions. It catalogs existing conversations, groups related topics into workspaces, and uses a short model call to choose an existing topic, create a new one, or ask for clarification when a historical reference is ambiguous.
Each topic has its own resumable worker. The main chat mounts a bounded summary, while the worker can retrieve relevant excerpts from its session and approved historical source ranges. The interface supports English and Chinese.
How it is built
The plugin is written in TypeScript, with a React web client and a Node.js backend. SQLite stores the topic catalog, summaries, source ranges, and routing state. DSH stores the original conversation logs and runs the models and tools. TheOne reuses the provider configuration managed by DSH. For this hackathon, an isolated DSH profile uses NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super (nvidia/nemotron-3-super-120b-a12b) through the Nebius Token Factory OpenAI-compatible inference API. Both the topic router and independent background workers use this model.
Routing targets are validated before a worker starts. Cancellation propagates to routing and execution. Replies stream back to the main chat, while the original tool calls remain in the topic worker. Context checkpoints prioritize recently and frequently used topics when DSH compacts the main chat.
Engineering challenges
A useful summary does not replace the original conversation. The implementation keeps summaries separate from source logs and retrieves bounded excerpts on demand. Imported topics retain references to approved source ranges rather than copying a mixed conversation into a worker.
Another challenge is returning to an old topic without switching to an unrelated one. The router combines the catalog with DSH search, validates proposed targets, and asks for clarification when it has multiple credible matches. Candidate retrieval can still miss a topic and create a duplicate.
Current progress and limits
The repository includes the compiled backend and web client, installation instructions, and tests using DSH services with mocked models. Main chat, topic workspaces, history indexing, streaming replies, and persistent routing state are implemented.
The current repository documents native streaming replies, tool cards and approval flows. The hackathon integration check used synthetic text messages; tools and approvals were not exercised in that check. Routing can still create duplicate topics or choose the wrong topic, and large-scale history indexing and hard power-loss recovery have not been validated.
Hackathon development
The project repository was created on September 30, 2026. The hackathon setup now runs TheOne 0.3.31 with DSH 0.2.0-rc.2 on Node.js 24, using actual Nebius inference requests to NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Super. The main chat completed four requests spanning website notes, a Hangzhou trip, running, and a return to the website-notes topic. Three distinct background sessions were recorded, and the last reply recalled the fields from the first topic. This demonstrates a small working integration, rather than general routing accuracy.
Automatic history indexing and topic grouping are disabled in the isolated demo to keep background inference bounded. API credentials stay outside the repository. A reproducible launcher and setup guide are published in the repository, together with an MIT license. The 95-second English demo shows actual Nebius/Nemotron calls using synthetic example messages; screen captures are sampled and edited with holds.
