Inspiration
As fresh graduates of college, it was hard to find employment in our field. We either didn't have the correct skills or enough team experience to market ourselves. That being the case, we wanted to create a place for people in a similar situation to get together and build each other up. This platform is meant to help developers get cool projects under their belt and gain experience working on a team.
What it does
CodeIdeas is built to be a gathering place for developers. This application allows users to create accounts and post and share project ideas with other developers. Users are also able to search for projects they are interested in and form teams to work together to bring the project to life.
How we built it
We built it using the Bolt AI for building the bulk of the web application. We used Supabase for the backend to handle all the data and requests. We used IONOS for the public domain and to create a business email for our site. To deploy the application, we used Netlify. SendGrid was used to make the contribution requests feature, which allows us to send emails about potential contributors to a project.
Challenges we ran into
One of the largest challenges we ran into was connecting the functions in our application with Supabase. The issue was that our code was often referencing the local state instead of sending the information to the backend database. We also ran into issues with permissions on the project and making sure that all the members had access to the tools they needed to contribute. One other major challenge was integrating all the tools to work together. We had a large learning curve because we had never used any of these services before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud to have successfully deployed an MVP of our idea. To conceptualize an idea and then create and deploy it is a major milestone for us. We are also very proud of the development process of the application. We like the UI and the execution of our features in the project.
What we learned
One of the biggest lessons was the efficiency and utility that Bolt AI affords us as developers. The speed in which we can develop and deploy an application is unlike any other tool that we have used before. We also learned a lot about our third party tools and how to use them.
What's next for CodeIdeas
At the current time, we would need users to test our project. Having user feedback to help us test and fix features or add new features that we didn't think of will help make the project into something that people will want to use. We are considering implementing a reputation system into the application.
