Inspiration
Having seen many real-life incidents where crime reporting was delayed, ignored, or unsafe, we wanted to create something that could bring real change. TheftTether was inspired by the need to make communities safer with the help of AI and automation.
What it does
- TheftTether is an AI-powered crime prevention and reporting platform.
- Users can capture and upload photos, videos, or descriptions of incidents in real time.
- AI agents categorize, verify, and filter out false or duplicate reports to maintain credibility.
- The system automatically routes verified reports to the nearest police station or authority, ensuring quick action.
- Citizens remain anonymous if they choose, with multilingual support for accessibility.
- Future full-stack expansion will include dashboards for police, analytics for crime patterns, and community safety alerts.
How we built it
We built the V0 prototype using Cursor + built-in AI APIs for automation, media handling, and categorization. The focus was on rapid prototyping with agentic workflows and a lightweight frontend.
Challenges we ran into
1.Handling fake or misleading reports with limited dataset access. 2.Building a real-time alerting system under hackathon time constraints. 3.Balancing tech complexity with a clean UX in the early prototype.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Working end-to-end V0 flow: from user report → AI verification → alert.
- Integrated basic AI-driven categorization into the reporting pipeline.
- Proved the concept of AI + automation for public safety within a short time.

What's next for TheftTether
We plan to expand from prototype to full-stack platform with:
- Dedicated backend for secure storage & faster processing
- Role-based dashboards (citizen, police, admin).
- Real-time notifications with geolocation services.
- Analytics & heatmaps for crime trends and hotspots.
- Stronger security & privacy layers to protect user data.
- Scalable cloud deployment for broader rollout.
